![]() During the plot when Link arrives at the Deku Palace, the Deku Butler even comments that Deku Link resembles his son whom he has not seen in a long time. So, it’s pretty plausible that the Deku Butler’s son wandered to the wrong place at the wrong time and the Skull Kid killed him by turning him into this warped tree and bound his soul into the mask he stuck on Link. We’re told by Tatl the fairy that this tree looks strangely emotional, like it’s going to cry at any second, and during this time, Link had already been turned into a Deku Scrub. During the end credits, we see him kneeling at that strange tree we only saw once in the very beginning stages of the game’s introduction. Meanwhile, I’d like to imagine that the Zoras would believe the lie that Mikau is alive, since none of them actually saw or heard the news of his death at the hands of the Gerudo pirates during the course of the plot, if only for a little while longer. However, we can sort of imagine that they would resume the bargaining stage of grief, which many of them expressed, after finding out the truth. We don’t see the effects of this for the Zoras and Gorons as Zora Link (still perceived as Mikau) is seen in the end credits, and we don’t see how the Gorons reacted upon finding out that their hero Darmani was actually dead and the Darmani they *thought* they saw was actually just Link in disguise. The Deku Butler’s son, Darmani, Mikau, the kingdom of Ikana-they’re all still dead and left their loved ones behind. It goes without saying that many of the people they have known are dead, their kingdom is destroyed, and they’re forced to sift through the ashes to rebuild and even venture into the crypts of Hyrule Castle just to reawaken the evil that had thrown them into hell (breath of the wild 2 trailer).Ĭompare this to the narrative of Majora’s Mask-even after Link destroys Majora’s spirit and ends the threat of the Moon looming over Termina, the ones who had passed away still don’t return. There’s nothing that Link or Zelda can do to “return to their normal life.” It’s like they’ve been suddenly removed from their life before the calamity and plopped into a world so foreign than what they have known. Even if Calamity Ganon is defeated, the champions, the king, the royal family, and guards-they’re all dead and remain dead. It’s only through collecting his memories of his fallen comrades does he put the pieces together and recalls most of the broader picture of his past. This conflict and growth are exactly why I had an easy time casting Midna in this role, and I loved being able to write her and develop the dynamics she has with Link and Aryll.Īs I’ve mentioned before, the story features Link waking up from 100 year coma and thrown into the post-apocalyptic wilderness having no memories of what had transpired that led him to this state. #IKANA CASTLE THEME CODE#She doesn’t want to keep them from getting home even for a little while, and when she finds out about Koume’s true intentions she draws the line, as her moral code won’t let her hurt others for her own sake and she knows Zelda wouldn’t want her to hurt anyone on her behalf either. Here it’s her bond with Aryll and Link that makes her hesitate to hand them over: she really likes Aryll, and after a rough start with Link they’re now getting along, and she feels a lot of sympathy for his situation with Mipha. Which of course lines up with how Midna initially thought to just use Link in TP to help herself and her people, until his actions and Zelda’s made her reconsider her disdain for the people of the world of light. Until, of course, she grew to like them and have second thoughts, as Midna does here. In the show, the situation for Beatrice is similar: she thought that Adelaide just wanted a couple of kids to do household chores, and was fine with just turning them over to her in exchange for the item she needed to break her and her family’s curse. Of course, the centerpiece of this scene is the reveal of what Midna’s been up to this whole time. ![]()
